007 SPECTRE MOVIE TIME MOVIE
The focus of each movie or novel is the mission at hand there are no overarching narratives and very little is known about Bond’s life outside his work with MI6. In the spirit of Fleming’s novels, the Bond movies have always been episodic installments with no connective tissue besides recurring characters like Q and Moneypenny. Going back to Ian Fleming’s source material, James Bond stories have always been standalone adventures that could take place anywhere on the timeline of Bond’s career and it wouldn’t make much of a difference. Spectre tried to upend the formula and position itself as a chapter in a larger narrative, but why? That undermines Bond’s legacy. Its movies follow a loose formula and the fun comes from how that formula is executed. But the Bond franchise is just about a spy who goes on a mission, cracks the case, gets the girl, then does the same thing over and over again. The sprawling cosmic worlds of the Marvel universe and the dozens of Avengers now on the team’s roster open it up to long-running storylines involving a variety of characters. This forced continuity was seemingly a response to the MCU’s success with serialized storytelling, but serialization is crucial to how Marvel’s superhero stories are told on the page. Then, when he finally finds him, the scarred megalomaniac tells him, “I’m the author of all your pain,” revealing an elaborate, years-in-the-making plan whereby he was the mastermind behind the deaths of characters like M and Vesper Lynd. When Bond tracks down Blofeld in Spectre, the investigation needlessly ties him to the Quantum organization from Quantum of Solace.
One of Spectre’s most glaring flaws was its attempts to tie all of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies together in a shared continuity. Cary Joji Fukunaga’s movie faces more pressure than usual because it has to pull the franchise out of the slump that the previous film, Spectre, put it in. Minpuntje blijft toch dat Bond zomaar bij Blofeld binnen komt lopen: dat had hij (of beter gezegd : dat hadden de scriptschrijvers) toch wel wat verfijnder mogen aanpakken, en wat hij daarna aldaar moet ondergaan is bijna zijn verdiende loon voor zoveel naïviteit.As the latest James Bond movie, No Time to Die, has had its release date pushed back yet again, 007 fans are wondering if they’ll ever get to see the gentleman spy’s latest adventure. Erg grappige rol van Ben Whishaw (een ideale Q), en Léa Seydoux ziet er in de restaurantwagen wonderschoon uit in haar crèmekleurige jurk. Daniel Craig heb ik altijd een humorloze kleerkast gevonden, maar na de drie meest recente 007-films te hebben herzien ben ik toch wel op die mening teruggekomen, en hij krijgt hier prima tegenspel van de gladde Christoph Waltz en de uiterst onaangename Dave Bautista – de vechtpartij tussen Bond en Hinx op de trein is hard en grof, en ik kan de klappen bijna lijfelijk navoelen. In de bioscoop vond ik dit indertijd maar een matig geheel met veel geschreeuw en weinig wol, maar op m'n gemak voor het televisiescherm gezeten en met meer aandacht voor vertolkingen, tempo en sfeer kan ik de film toch aanzienlijk beter genieten. Allemaal leuk en aardig, al dat geschrijf e.d., maar het smoort de charme van een Bond film. Tekenend dat niet Waltz, maar hij de boevenkar trekt. De grapjes zijn geforceerd, maar Mendes schudt wel een paar fijne actie scènes uit de mouw en die gorilla is best een indrukwekkende verschijning. Dikke blunder in een laatste uur dat amper nog weet aan te spreken. Een ideale schurk, maar hij krijgt nauwelijks iets te doen van Mendes. Weg tempo.Įn wat nog erger is, Waltz lijkt er last van te hebben. Het boeit me ook geen tel wanneer het script de Craig films, ook nog eens heel opzichtig aan elkaar gaat plakken. Ik zit niet te wachten op traantjes en dat soort flut drama in een Bond film. Doe mij Honey Rider, Pussy Galore and Holly Goodhead maar. Duurt veel te lang voordat ze eindelijk ontdooit.
Bellucci heeft het moeilijk en Seydoux heeft het nog moeilijker.
